Privacy Policy

Word Pizza is a free daily word puzzle game. You can play entirely as a guest — no account, no personal information. A few optional features (signing in, a friends leaderboard) collect a little more, described below. We collect only the minimum needed to run the game.

What We Collect

• Player ID — A random identifier stored on your device. Not linked to your real identity unless you choose to sign in.
• Alias / display name — A display name you choose for the leaderboards.
• Game scores — Your daily scores, completion time, and words played, used for leaderboards and statistics.
• Sign-in details (optional) — If you choose to Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store a stable account identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email. Apple's "Hide My Email" is fully supported — you can sign in without sharing your real email — and we never receive your password.
• Friends (optional) — If you use the friends leaderboard, we store the connections you create and a curated in-app avatar you pick. We do not access your device contacts or upload any photos.
• Email address — Only if you opt in to daily reminders, or as provided by your sign-in. Reminders require a separate opt-in.
• Push notification token — Only if you enable notifications. Used solely for daily puzzle reminders.
• IP address — Temporarily processed for spam mitigation. Stored only as a one-way hash, never in raw form.
• Basic analytics — Page visits, game events (start, complete, share), and feature usage. No advertising identifiers.

What We Don't Collect

• No phone numbers or physical addresses
• No payment information (the game is free with no in-app purchases)
• No location data
• No device contacts, and no uploaded photos (in-app avatars are a curated set you choose from)
• No cross-app tracking in the mobile app — the app performs no advertising-network tracking

Signing In & Friends

Signing in is optional and never required to play. If you sign in with Apple or Google and set a name, that name appears on the leaderboards (including the global leaderboard) so friends recognize you. Only your first name is shown, never a surname. You can turn on "Appear anonymous" in Settings at any time, which replaces your name with a neutral label on every surface — the global board, parties, chat and your friends board — and stops your name being included in invite or share links you send. Real names and the friends leaderboard are for players 13 and older; younger players play with a nickname only. You can add or remove friends, and block or report a player, from within the app.

Third-Party Services

• Cloudflare — Hosting, content delivery, and database.
• Apple & Google — Sign in with Apple / Sign in with Google (only if you choose to sign in).
• Resend — Email delivery (only if you subscribe to reminders).
• Reddit & Meta Pixels (website only) — Anonymous conversion measurement on the website; block them with any ad blocker without affecting gameplay. The mobile app does not use these and performs no ad-network tracking.

Data Storage & Sharing

Data is stored in a Cloudflare D1 database; your game state and preferences are also stored locally on your device. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing. Legal bases where applicable: running the game and leaderboards (legitimate interest / providing the service), reminder emails and sign-in (your consent), and spam prevention (legitimate interest).

Pizza Parties

If you join or create a Pizza Party, your alias and daily scores are visible to other party members, and party chat is visible to all members. You can leave a party at any time.

Your Rights & Data Deletion

You are in control of your data:

• Delete your account — In the app: Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your name, avatar, and friend connections, revokes your Apple/Google sign-in, and can't be undone. You can also delete on the web at wordpizza.com/delete (use the "delete on the web" link in the app's Settings).
• Download your data — In the app: Settings → Download my data (access and portability).
• Correct your data — Change your display name any time in Settings.
• Guest data — Clear your browser's site data for wordpizza.com to remove local data at any time.
• Or email privacy.wordpizza@gmail.com and we'll help within 30 days.

These cover GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California) rights to access, delete, correct, and port your data.

Children's Privacy

Word Pizza is playable by anyone as a guest with no personal information. Account features — signing in, a real display name, and the friends leaderboard — are for players 13 and older; the app asks your age before enabling them, and younger players continue with a nickname only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Email Unsubscribe

Every reminder email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe from Settings.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted here with an updated date.
